I sit here on a Monday morning instead of Sunday evening thinking about all that God has done along our journey this week. God has been speaking loudly, challenging me and others on our team and defining many specifics for our next steps. I will share those in due time. But this week outside of an awesome worship service with Vertical where Pastor Donnie brought the word about Heaven giving us the truth about what the Bible says and expelling many of the myths that we have always thought. If you didn’t hear it please go to www.govertical.org and listen to this weeks pod cast as it answers so many questions. This week FuZion staff also got to go to a great conference on church finances to help us fund the vision and dream God has placed deep inside of us His way and debt free. We know that is what the Lord desires for us and we give it to Him to accomplish just that.
Our life groups this week God showed us and rocked our worlds. As we studied the story of Joshua leading the children of Israel into the Promise Land. This journey was a profound one as they had spent over 40 years in the desert, due to their unbelief, after being led from captivity and watching God free them from slavery as they saw Him work mightily as they crossed through Red Sea on dry ground. They are now faced with finally getting to fulfill the promise and dream that God has placed in their hearts & has been talked about for generations. But they have one more obstacle to overcome. They have to cross the Jordan River to receive all the blessings and fulfill the promise that God has for them. This won’t be a big problem during any other time of the year due to the Jordan is usually only about 100 feet wide, but God wanted to do what only He can and has called them to cross during the harvest season. During this seasons is when the Jordan swells to over a mile wide meaning simply that they can’t do it without God.
Read the story found in Joshua 3:1-17.
We all have our Jordan Rivers that we must cross. I feel as individuals, families and a church that we are faced with our Jordan River. But we must decided if we are going to settle on the bank of our Jordan just short of the promise of God giving up on our dream and fulfilling the vision God has given us or crossing over into His promise. Our Jordan is a place that is God ordained, a place of impossibility, of weakness, helplessness, place where self effort dies & the place where we come face to face with our true self seeing our self for who we really are. It is the dividing line where we are forced to decide are we going to fully trust God or trust in our own efforts. Why is it so important to cross because crossing over means not only moving from one side to the other but passing over mediocrity. Crossing over into God’s best!!
As we face our Jordan River there are a few things we must do according to Joshua 3 to cross our Jordan:
1. We must sanctify or cleanse ourselves in preparation for the journey. This is the first step in the journey due to having to take a hard look are yourself and cut away, let go and allow God to change your life as you prepare to go.
2. We must have a vision of something greater than ourselves. God has given each of us a vision for what He desires for our lives as well as for FuZion Church. Having this vision is what helps us keep our focus as we continue along our journey.
3. Next we must choose to commit. We must totally surrender, become totally dependent upon God knowing that we can’t do it under our own strength and only through Him will we be able to cross.
4. To cross our Jordan we must do it in bare feet. Simply meaning setting aside all personal agendas, safety and protection that we can provide for ourselves and trust in the Father.
5. The hardest step in crossing our Jordan is that we must do it with wet feet. God instructed the priest to step into the water before He would stop the flow. We must take the first step of faith along this journey to see God do His part as He sees us trust in Him to fulfill what He promised.
6. We must trust in God’s perfect timing as to when to cross. God will always have us cross at the time He will receive the greatest glory.
7. Lastly to cross our Jordan we must be committed to being resilient. To be resilient we must be capable of bouncing back from challenges and adversities. To be resilient we must:
a. Focus on the results. That is why vision is so important because seeing the results of the fulfillment of that vision is what helps us accomplish the task set before us and overcoming those challenges we will face.
b. We must learn from our failures. If we don’t learn from them we are destine to repeat them.
c. We need to reinforce the God given vision. Continually remind yourself of what God has called you to so that you keep Jesus as your focus to fulfill that vision.
d. Lastly we must Keep Moving Forward. We must realize that we are always moving in some direction. If we stop moving forward toward God and the fulfillment of the vision we are moving backwards.
Take courage as you face your Jordan and know that the journey you are on is worth receiving all that God has for you as you reach the other side.
